Rolls-Royce Solutions Asia, a subsidiary of Rolls-Royce’s Power Systems division, is proud to celebrate 50 years of innovation, excellence, and contribution to Singapore and the Asia Pacific region with mtu power generation and propulsion systems.

Started as MTU Friedrichshafen, the company went global with its first subsidiary outside Germany, mtu Singapore Pte Ltd in 1974. mtu Singapore Pte Ltd has since gone through name changes to become Rolls-Royce Solutions Asia in 2021.

Today, Rolls-Royce’s Power Systems division continues to be at the forefront of providing cutting-edge solutions in the world’s most important markets. It is providing integrated mtu solutions, based on combustion engines, powered by sustainable fuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), hydrogen or methanol, to minimize the CO2 footprint of engine operation and to support the energy transition in marine, power generation and governmental applications; supported by battery energy storage systems and comprehensive service solutions. As operational headquarters, the subsidiary Rolls-Royce Solutions Asia in Singapore provides expertise for sales, engineering and service of the complete mtu product portfolio, including factory overhauls. The latest expansion in 2013 included a new logistics centre, a state-of-the-art workshop, three modern test benches with a capability up to 10 MW, and a training centre.

To commemorate its jubilee in Singapore, Rolls-Royce Solutions Asia recently held its 50th Anniversary Appreciation Dinner at the Raffles Singapore. Gathering customers and partners from Singapore and the region, the celebration highlighted half a century of achievements, made possible through strong partnerships and collaborations in Singapore. The dinner was graced by Guest of Honour, Mr. Alvin Tan, Minister of State for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the Ministry of Trade & Industry.

He says: “Singapore greatly appreciates our longstanding partnership with Rolls-Royce, which has been critical in building our capabilities as an aerospace and aviation hub. I am glad to see Rolls-Royce Solutions Asia grow their footprint here in Singapore and strengthen their regional network. Congratulations on 50 years in Singapore!”

Dr. Jörg Stratmann, CEO of Rolls-Royce Power Systems said, “The journey of today's Rolls-Royce Power Systems to Asia began here in Singapore and has evolved with the region's dynamic economic landscape. Asia-Pacific is not just an important region for Rolls-Royce - it's a market with immense potential. We are fully committed to advancing our presence in Asia, embracing local insights to drive global success.”

Calling Asia home for the past five decades

With the Republic of Singapore Navy being one of the first customers with an order of 24 engines, today’s Rolls-Royce Solutions Asia has since grown into a dedicated team of approximately 300 employees locally. The company provides service solutions that play pivotal roles in the industrial, governmental, commercial marine, and power generation sectors, thus contributing significantly to the region's security and development.

Serving over 30 countries across Asia, this subsidiary of Rolls-Royce Power Systems has also evolved into a regional competence center for network development, sales, service, IT and finance, demonstrating proven expertise and support in the industry.

Making contributions to the community and industry

With a commitment to becoming a net-zero company by 2050, Rolls-Royce Solutions Asia is already charting its path ahead.

The Singapore based subsidiary is actively working to explore the use of sustainable fuels and investing in innovative products and technologies that will help achieve a carbon-neutral future. These include combustion engines that are compatible with alternative fuels like HVO, biofuels, hydrogen and other e-fuels produced using green, renewable electricity, so as to deliver cleaner power and energy.

Other efforts also include sustainable deployed mtu energy systems such as energy storage modules, integrating renewable energy sources such as solar, and building quieter yet efficient technology to enable a net-zero future.

An outlook for the future

Looking ahead, Rolls-Royce Solutions Asia remains committed to support its customers and the industry in embracing sustainable power and energy solutions. This journey of innovation is propelled not just by advanced technologies and products but by the passion and dedication of its people.

Giovanni Spadaro, President, Global Markets Rolls-Royce Power Systems and Managing Director, Rolls-Royce Solutions Asia, said:

"This year, Rolls-Royce Solutions Asia celebrates 50 years in Singapore. We continue to build on our strong heritage and remain committed to provide world-class mtu power solutions and complete life-cycle support to our customers across Asia Pacific.
