Ground-breaking ceremony for mtu-facility in Poland

The Tognum Group has begun building its new production facility in Stargard Szczeciński. Today, representatives of the propulsion and power solutions specialist welcomed leading figures from regional politics and business to the inauguration of the site.

Die Tognum-Gruppe hat mit den Bauarbeiten für das neue Produktionswerk im polnischen Stargard Szcecinski begonnen. Die Tognum-Tochtergesellschaft mtu Polska wird dort künftig Komponenten für mtu-Motoren fertigen. Das Werk soll in der zweiten Hälfte des Jahres 2013 die Produktion aufnehmen. The Tognum Group has begun building its new production facility in Stargard Szczecinski in Poland, where in future Tognum s subsidiary, mtu Polska, will manufacture components for mtu engines. The plant is to start production in the second half of 2013. When it becomes fully operational, it is to employee a workforce of over 200. The new plant is part of the Tognum Group s global expansion strategy. Spatenstich für neues Werk in Polen: Die Tognum-Gruppe hat am 5. Juli in Stargard Szczecinski die Bauarbeiten für ihr neues Werk begonnen, in dem Komponenten mtu-Motoren hergestellt werden. Bauprojektleiter Günther Schulze (MTU Friedrichshafen), Marek Lyzwe (Vizepräsident der polnischen Agentur für Information und Auslandinvestitionen), Sloawomir Pajor (Präsident der Stadt Stargard), Michal Jach (Abgeordneter der Republik Polen), Karl Kollmuß (Projektleiter und Geschäftsführer von mtu Polska), Zofia Lawrynowicz (Abgeordnete der Republik Polen), Andrzej Jakubowski (Vize-Marschall der Woiwodschaft Westpommern), Waldemar Gil (Landrat der Region Stargard) und Iwona Grajewska (Direktorin der Sonderwirtschaftszone Westpommern) vollführten die ersten Spatenstiche auf dem Baugelände südlich der Stadt Stargard.   • Important strategic move to expand European production capacities

Friedrichshafen, 5 July 2012. The Tognum Group has begun building its new production facility in Stargard Szczeciński. Today, representatives of the propulsion and power solutions specialist welcomed leading figures from regional politics and business to the inauguration of the site.   At the new location in Stargard Szczeciński, Tognum subsidiary mtu Polska is to begin producing mtu-brand engine components from the second half of 2013. R&D facilities for mechanical and electrical engine components are also to be set up. With the move, Tognum is expanding its R&D and production capacities in Europe.  

“Regional growth is an absolute pre-requisite for the overall success of the Tognum group. With the new location in Stargard Szczeciński, we are increasing our production capacities and reinforcing our network of production facilities around the globe,” explained Dr. Ulrich Dohle, CTO of the Tognum Executive Board.    

The mtu Polska company was set up in August 2011 and has now transferred its headquarters from Warsaw to Stargard Szczeciński. Full-scale operations in the new plant are to get underway from 2015 with a planned workforce of over 200. “This facility will form an integral part of our global production network and will make it even more tightly-knit and flexible,” explained Karl Kollmuß, Managing Director of mtu Polska.

The main job of the mtu Polska workers at the new facility will be to manufacture crankcases, cylinder heads and other large-sized components for Series 2000 and 4000 engines. These will then be assembled at the Aiken site in the US, at the Suzhou site in China and at the lead plant in Friedrichshafen to form engines, drive and propulsion systems, and power generation plants. Tognum will also be expanding its R&D facilities at the Stargard Szczeciński site, where engineers and technical designers are to develop and test the engine components built there, as well as electronic assemblies for engine control and automation.
