Friedrichshafen, 22 June 2012. Yesterday evening, the specialist for propulsion and power solutions Tognum distributed Supplier Awards for the year 2011 to its most outstanding suppliers. This is the seventh year that it has given accolades for outstanding achievements, but the first year in which there have been five categories. The awards were presented by Dr. Ulrich Dohle, Tognum executive board member responsible for Technology & Operations, and Erik Manning, head of purchasing at Tognum, accompanied by the relevant departmental managers. “The Supplier Award is a mark of outstanding achievement and quality,” Dohle emphasized. “The winners have proven themselves to be exceptionally reliable business partners who have set standards and thereby made an important contribution to the long-term success of our business.”

For the second year in succession, the award for best supplier of finished parts was won by Maschinenfabrik Spaichingen from Baden-Württemberg (Germany). They have been supplying the Tognum Group with control elements for mtu Series 4000 engines for many years. The top-rated supplier of unfinished parts was Giesserei Heunisch based in Bad Windsheim in Central Franconia (Germany). They produce complex castings such as gear casings for the Tognum Group. Another award winner from Central Franconia was the best in the new onsite energy category, Hering of Gunzenhausen, who develops and manufactures exhaust heat exchangers for gensets carrying the Tognum-brand mtu Onsite Energy. The number-one component supplier – the second of the new award categories – was Zeulenroda Präzision Maschinenbau from Thuringia (Germany). They produce high-precision components for L’Orange, the Tognum Group’s fuel injection specialist. The most-improved supplier of the year award was presented to Prestolight Electric, a manufacturer of starters and alternators. Within the space of a year, the supplier based in Middlesex in the UK improved its ratings in all criteria and so made the biggest step forward of all suppliers.

The award winners for 2011 were selected from the nearly 1,700 suppliers worldwide from whom the Tognum Group sourced goods and services last year. The assessment criteria included quality, logistics, competitiveness and environmental credentials. Suppliers are given regular reports on their performance ratings so they can see at any time where they stand and where there is potential for improvement. “Our suppliers pay careful attention to their ratings in order to be able to focus product and process development on the important areas and ensure the highest possible quality standards,” explained head of purchasing, Erik Manning. “That is the basis for working together to develop innovative and bespoke solutions for customers and so to be successful in the future.”
