Friedrichshafen, 16. September 2010. The MTU Friedrichshafen subsidiary of the Tognum Group will be opening its doors from Tuesday, 21. September to Wednesday, 22. September for the "Training Workshop Open Day" in Plant 1. From one to four o’clock on each of the open days, students and their parents can find out all they want to know about job training at MTU Friedrichshafen and gain insights into industrial training. Anyone interested in attending the Open Day simply has to register at the main reception of Plant 1 in Maybachplatz between one and four o’clock on one of the days.
"To be able to make a direct impression on the visitors, who are predominantly young people and teenagers, and get them interested in training at mtu, apprentices from the company will present various industrial occupations," explained Mathias Jobmann, head of human resources and operational services at Tognum. In a one-hour tour of the works, the visitors, divided into small groups, learn about what training as an industrial mechanic, an electronics technician, a mechatronics technician, or a draftsman involves by going to selected stations in the training workshop. Upcoming industrial mechanics show which motor components they manufacture using computer-controlled machine tools in the apprentices’ CNC production island. Students and their instructors from dual study courses explain how the combination of company training and higher education courses is structured and which courses are offered at MTU Friedrichshafen.
"The aim of the event is to guide young men and women in their choice of vocation and give them an initial impression of everyday working life. I’m sure that over the next few years, some visitors from Open Day will come back to us as interns or apprentices," said Dr. Klaus Waldschmidt, head of personnel development, training and education at Tognum. In the past, around 600 students, teachers and parents a year have informed themselves about training opportunities at Tognum.
