2050 - how we become climate neutral

In 2050, we want to be climate neutral. But what will our lives look like then? And what role do mtu products play in it? Come with us on a journey towards climate neutrality - with fuel cells, green combustion engines and clean energy.

Our way to green shipping

Methanol engine, fuel cells, hybrid systems - Rolls-Royce presents new mtu propulsion solutions for ships at SMM

Rolls-Royce will be showcasing new sustainable mtu marine solutions for propulsion, automation and service at SMM, the international maritime industry trade fair, in Hamburg, Germany, from 6 – 9 September 2022, under the slogan ‘Pioneering the journey to Net Zero’. At booth 307 in Hall 3A, Rolls-Royce will present methanol engines, fuel cell concepts, hybrid systems, diesel engines with exhaust aftertreatment and for use with sustainable fuels, as well as mtu NautIQ marine automation products.

How will the ship of the future run?

The tugboat of the future will run on batteries... or on fuel cells... or both? And the ferry with combustion engines using sustainable fuels... in combination with batteries and electric motors... or also with fuel cells? The question of the propulsion system of the future is complex, because the possibilities are many. Sustainable fuels and innovative technologies enable various CO2-neutral or CO2-free propulsion concepts for ships.

"Green methanol" will power innovative mtu marine engines

Heading for the future with e-methanol: Rolls-Royce develops high-speed mtu methanol engines as a game-changer for climate-friendly shipping.

Hydrogen-based energy for the port logistics of the future

Duisburg - a city in western Germany - not only has the largest inland container terminal in Europe. A new beacon project for distributed, climate-neutral power generation is also being built here. The precise location – 'the coal islands' – is interesting, since these served as a trans-shipment site for coal all the way up to 2020. Its heaps of coal, the raw material for fossil power, were visible from all around. But these are being replaced by fuel cells and cogeneration modules powered by hydrogen to produce green electricity and heat. A better symbol for the energy turnaround would be difficult to find.

Speed, comfort, efficiency, locally emission-free - mtu Hybrid PropulsionPack

Anchoring without climate-damaging exhaust gases and quiet maneuvering in port: The mtu Hybrid PropulsionPack from Rolls-Royce offers a propulsion solution that enables pure battery-electric operation over a certain period of time. The low engine noise and vibrations then offer even more comfort on board. Large luxury yacht or working vessel: for the optimum propulsion solution, the hybrid system can be adapted to customer requirements. Rolls-Royce will be launching the mtu Hybrid PropulsionPack for the engines of the mtu Series 2000 and Series 4000 from 2023.
