- Internationally recognized Audit certifies special Quality Management
- Important Signal to Rail Vehicle Manufacturers
Friedrichshafen, 14 July 2009. Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH has now been certified by the IRIS (International Railway Industry Standard) railway manufacturing standard, which specifies internationally applicable requirements for rail manufacturers’ quality management systems and - more specifically - their suppliers. IRIS is based on the ISO 9001:2000 quality management standard - which MTU Friedrichshafen has been certified by for many years - and complements this basic standard for railway applications. With the certification according to this standard, mtu complies with a requirement stipulated by rail vehicle manufacturers and qualifies as a supplier for the manufacturers who are members of the UNIFE association (European Railway Industries). In this way, mtu has been certified to have the required process stability and quality, a fact that will have positive effects on customer satisfaction. “With this certification, we have - yet again - set standards for our customers, since none of our competitors has, as yet, been placed on the UNIFE certification list“, Rainer Breidenbach, Tognum COO for the “Engines” business unit points out mtu’s unique status.
The IRIS standard certification is therefore an important signal to rail vehicle manufacturers with regard to future orders, since such orders are placed with IRIS-certified companies without further requirements. With the IRIS certificate, mtu is therefore offering their rail customers the safety of an out-and-out certified quality management system.
The DQS certification society carried out their audit, particularly on the processes on the rail PowerPack assembly line, as well as the areas training & qualification, purchasing, management processes pertaining to current rail projects or product reliability. “mtu has provided clear evidence during the IRIS audit that all required processes are correctly implemented”, confirmed DQS auditor Hans Jahn when handing over the certificate.
