- Five-year contract on after-sales services
Friedrichshafen, 7 April 2009. The propulsion and power solutions specialist Tognum will be supporting the Malaysian naval forces over the next five years with a package of specially tailored after-sales solutions. A corresponding contract with a volume of approx. 111 million euros (more than 146 million US dollars) has recently been signed between the Tognum Malaysian Distributor and the Navy.
For more than 30 years, the Royal Malaysian Navy has fitted its vessels with engines of the Tognum brand mtu. By now, around 70 mtu engines are in operation with the naval forces. The new contract will expand the existing, successful cooperation. The Royal Malaysian Navy will not only order spare parts for its engines and propulsion systems from the Tognum Group as in the past; the contract also includes future arrangements for maintenance and repair of the systems as well as the training of naval maintenance personnel on propulsion plants and electronic control systems which will be conducted by mtu specialists. For this purpose, the local, independent distributor, mtu Services Malaysia, and MTU Friedrichshafen will enter a close cooperation.
"The contract with the Royal Malaysian Navy confirms Tognum´s strategy of growth not only through the sale of engines and propulsion systems but also by supporting the systems throughout their entire service life. The after-sales business is one of our important strategic mainstays", explains Tognum Board member Rainer Breidenbach, responsible for the Business Unit Engines. According to Peter Kneipp, CEO of MTU Asia, the confidence of the Royal Malaysian Navy is also an example for the successful cooperation of many years between both partners.
For 35 years, mtu has been present in Asia with its independent subsidiary. A staff of more than 400 works in the fields of assembly, sales and service at MTU Asia.
