mtu Opens Up a New Class of Power

In 2005, mtu will officially launch the 12- and 16-cylinder versions of the 2000 Common Rail engines.
In 2005, mtu will officially launch the 12- and 16-cylinder versions of the 2000 Common Rail engines. The place the engines will first be shown is the Miami International Boat Show. The engines open up an entirely new class of power. While the 12V comes with 1800 HP and thus mainly targets fast boats of up to 120 feet, the 16V goes up to 2400 HP. This allows on the one hand considerably higher speeds than boat builders have been able to offer up to now in existing boats - or allows, on the other hand, conceivably larger boats and still keep the speeds high.
The new 16V 2000 Common Rail engines are 20 percent more powerful than the current 16V 2000 with their maximum output of 2000 HP. This was for many years the only engine for that size and weight power. Those who wanted to get more power had to go to the larger or to more engines which in many case was too large for the average engine room.
The new 12V and 16V Series 2000 engines include the same features found on the 8V and 10V models: Common Rail injection with 1800 bar injection pressure, new electronics and high performance turbo charging, just to name a few. This results in lightweight and compact design and improved fuel economy.
