In the future, the use of alternative fuels will be fundamental to drive, propulsion and energy systems that are ecologically sound. In particular, synthetic fuels (Power-to-X, E-fuels) made using renewable resources hold great potential for increasing the carbon-neutrality of mobile drive and propulsion systems and stationary power generation. The additional benefit: Surplus energy from renewable sources is stored as fuel.
These fuels include drop-in fuels such as E-gas and E-diesel, which can already be used to power existing fleets, as well as the new E-methanol and E-hydrogen fuels. To leverage their potential, fuel manufacture based on renewable energies must be significantly improved and drive, propulsion and energy systems re-built to take up alternative fuels.
