Friedrichshafen, December 2, 2013. This year’s mtu Indoor Cup will be bigger, more modern and more atmospheric. With a capacity of up to 3,500 during the tournament, the new venue will allow almost twice as many football fans as before to enjoy the weekend event and cheer on their favorite teams on December 7 and 8. In its eleventh year, the unique competition for U15 teams will take place for the first time in the ZF Arena in Friedrichshafen.
"Having supported the event from the very start, we are proud to be a strong partner as the event reaches yet another milestone in its impressive development," says Dr Ulrich Dohle, CEO of Tognum AG. Since the inception of the competition in 2002, Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen has been the main sponsor and has lent its name to the event. The propulsion and power generation specialist also promotes the development of young football players from the region by supporting VfB Friedrichshafen’s mtu Youth Football Performance Center.
The favorites for winning this year’s competition include some of the biggest names in European football such as FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Arsenal London and the U15 team from current “treble” holder FC Bayern Munich. Altogether, this year’s mtu Indoor Cup will host top teams from eight European countries who will face challenges from eight teams from the local region. Apart from giving fans the chance to watch the stars of tomorrow play, it is this combination of international and regional flavors which gives the competition its special fascination. "Young people from the widest range of backgrounds bring together power, passion and partnership in order to reach their peak performance and to compete at an international level – those are values which also characterize MTU Friedrichshafen," says Dr Dohle.
Youth teams from the following clubs will take part in the mtu Indoor Cup 2013: FC Barcelona (two teams), Manchester United, FC Bayern Munich, Arsenal London, FC Basel 1893, Fenerbahce Istanbul, Zenit St. Petersburg, Olimpik Sarajevo, Dinamo Zagreb, Grasshopper Club Zurich, Eintracht Frankfurt, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, FSV Mainz 05, FC Schalke 04, VfB Stuttgart. Along with a team from the mtu Youth Football Performance Center in Friedrichshafen, the regional teams represented are TSG Ailingen, SG Eriskirch-Langenargen, SG Fischbach-Schnetzenhausen, VfB Friedrichshafen (two teams), SG Kluftern-Immenstaad and TSV Meckenbeuren.
