The Tognum Group and its subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen is holding open days at the training workshop on Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th September to provide information about training opportunities within the corporation. The event is aimed at school-leavers on the point of choosing a career or wanting to find out about a practical training placement, and at parents wishing to help their children make those decisions. Those interested should report to the main entrance of mtu Plant 1 on Maybachplatz between 1 pm and 4 pm on either of the two days.

Visitors will be taken on guided tours of the training workshop and various other training stations in the production area lasting about one hour in which they will find out more about the commercial and industrial career paths. They include training as an industrial mechanic, electrician, mechatronics engineer, technical draftsperson, and courses at the Cooperative State University. At the CNC production training station, apprentice industrial mechanics will be demonstrating how they make engine components with modern computer-controlled machine tools. And the apprentices on the maintenance training station will show how the complex machining centers are maintained and serviced. Lecturers and students from the Cooperative State University courses will also explain how the combination of on-the-job training and university education is organized and which courses are available through MTU Friedrichshafen. “The aim is for our trainers and trainees to show young people what career opportunities our company offers – because they can only get a real first impression of what the job is like on an everyday basis by seeing it first hand,“ explains Dr. Klaus Waldschmidt, Head of Personal Development and Training at Tognum AG. Which is why the visiting school-leavers will be allowed to have a go with some of the tools themselves – under the expert guidance and supervision of the trainers and apprentices, of course.

This is the 10th year that the open days at the training workshop have been held. On past occasions around 600 students, teachers and parents attended the two days of career information.
