  • Two formidable partners kick off the new football season together
  • Solid support for 1st Team, Indoor Cup Competition and Intensive Training Center

Friedrichshafen, 6 August 2008. The new football season in the Wuerttemberg region will see Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen and VfB Friedrichshafen’s 1st Team kicking off together in the fifth division. The reason is that mtu is now chief sponsor for the extremely successful VfB team. The company’s new role emphasizes its continuing support for the game which started with promotion of the mtu Indoor Cup Competition and the Intensive Football Training Center and it also underlines its commitment to the local Lake Constance region.

“We are looking forward to enjoying the season together with these talented and ambitious sportsmen. Their success depends on outstanding performance, endurance, team spirit and a love of competition - characteristics which are also of central importance to the success of our company” commented Volker Heuer, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Tognum AG and President and CEO of MTU Friedrichshafen.

VfB President Maik Fodor is equally enthusiastic about participation by the Friedrichshafen company: “It is vital to have a strong partner such as mtu backing you up. Apart from the extremely high standards we both set ourselves, we also have another important factor in common, namely tradition. Next year, mtu and VfB will both be celebrating their centenaries”.

“Powered by mtu” encapsulates the driving force behind high-speed yachts, heavy land vehicles, locomotives and power-generation plants. From now on, that mtu power will also be directed at providing solid support for successful athletes: Last season, VfB Friedrichshafen’s 1st Team had no difficulty gaining promotion to the next higher division. And the next generation of young football stars is by no means lagging behind when it comes to performance - as is obvious from the mtu Intensive Football Training Center and the mtu Indoor Cup Competition which are now synonymous with top-level sporting achievement in the region. The Tognum subsidiary has renewed its pledge to act as chief sponsor for both of these projects again and in doing so it has underlined its continuing commitment to young people.
