Hannover - For the first time, MTU Friedrichshafen will present its "Hot Module" high-temperature fuel cell at the Hannover Fair 2001 (23 through 28 April). At Stand 19 of Hall 13, the company will provide information about the technical aspects, economic efficiency, environmental compatibility and operating range of this future technology. Furthermore, a 1:1 scale model will demonstrate the simple configuration of the "Hot Module".

The "Hot Module" is suitable for operation of decentralized cogeneration power plants as it generates not only power but also HP steam. The range of applications extends from health sciences through the pharmaceutical and food industries to agriculture and research facilities. A 250kW field test plant has been tested since 1999 at the University of Bielefeld, Germany. It provides electricity for the power grid of the city of Bielefeld and process steam and hot water for the university´s research laboratories.

The decisive advantage of the "Hot Module" over thermal-electric power plants is that its technology has high environmental compatibility. The waste air consists mainly of water vapor and small amounts of carbon dioxide. Add to this a high efficiency rate: the field test plant at Bielefeld university has an electrical efficiency of 47%. On its way to reaching standard production status for its module, mtu will supply additional plants to the US, Japan and within Germany.
