FRIEDRICHSHAFEN / ROTTERDAM – Rolls-Royce will be presenting mtu’s propulsion and system engineering portfolio, primarily for offshore supply vessels and service vessels for offshore wind parks, work boats and yachts at the international exhibition for maritime technology, Europort Maritime in Rotterdam, from 3 to 6 November 2015. The mtu portfolio includes Series 2000, 4000 and 8000 propulsion engines in the power range from 400 to 10,000 kilowatts, automation and innovative system solutions, such as hybrid propulsion systems, in addition to diesel electric propulsion systems and diesel generator sets for the supply of on-board power. mtu and Rolls-Royce will be presenting their products on Stand 1425. The mtu brand is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems within the Land & Sea division of Rolls-Royce.

mtu will be presenting a model of its generator set based on the Series 4000 engine. Designed specifically for commercial applications, such as offshore vessels supplying oil and gas platforms, mtu is offering this genset for diesel-electric propulsion systems to generate onboard power. The genset family covers an electric power range of 720 to 2,140 kilowatts. Mounted on a base frame, a workboat engine taken from mtu‘s tried and tested Series 4000 “Ironmen” engine, with an option of 8, 12 or 16 cylinders, is combined with a generator and electronic control system.

Visitors to the mtu exhibition stand, where a specimen Series 4000 engine will be on display, will have the opportunity to see for themselves the result of the complete reconditioning of an older engine using mtu’s remanufacturing process. A rigorously controlled reman process ensures that the customer’s older engine is returned with the performance, quality, service life and the high standards of a new engine – including design and model-related updates.

At Europort, mtu will also be presenting customised service solutions for operators of work boats. mtu has some 1,200 service locations available worldwide and can provide a fleet manager to meet the client’s specific concept. “The aim is to provide each client with a tailor-made service package that is designed to meet the needs of his specific operation and optimised in terms of service life and life-cycle costs,” explains Nadine Buhmann, Head of the Marine and Offshore business at mtu.

For the offshore industry, mtu can provide numerous references for service vessels for wind parks and for platform supply vessels. In June 2015, a new 26 metre-long wind farm supply vessel powered by two mtu 12V 2000 M72 engines and equipped with two Rolls-Royce waterjets entered service with UK-based Seacat Services. Dong Energy recently added a Wave Class wind farm supply vessel from Umoe Mandal equipped with two mtu 16V 2000 M72 engines to its fleet. For a multipurpose service vessel commissioned by the Norwegian ship owner Myklebusthaug Management, mtu is to deliver the diesel electric propulsion system equipped with four 16V 4000 M63L variable speed gensets. The vessel is to be built at the Besiktas Shipyard in Turkey and is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2016. The mtu gensets are part of a Rolls-Royce systems order. The Rolls-Royce scope of supply, in addition to the gensets, includes the modern UT 7521 WP design of the vessel, the innovative SAVe Cube system and other machinery and equipment, such as azipull propellers and the bow and stern thrusters.
