Tognum congratulates successful apprentices

• 46 youngsters complete vocational training
• All apprentices to be taken on
• Special praise for two Chamber of Industry & Commerce prize winners

Friedrichshafen, 4 April 2012.  46 young people have successfully completed their vocational training at Tognum, the specialist for propulsion and power solutions and its subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen. All apprentices have received a job offer from the company. “Our apprentices have learnt a lot and they can now put that into practice. Their training has given them the basis for a promising future,” said Gerhard Müller, head of operative HR and personnel development, at the leaving ceremony.    

“Tognum looks at training in an international context. That’s why we invest strongly in international exchange programs,” says head of Human Resources Ingo Metzer. One exchange involved two German apprentices going to South Africa to acquire work experience, whilst a South African apprentice came to Friedrichshafen to deepen his knowledge. "That way, we not only promote language skills and encourage our apprentices to be flexible – the outcome for the company is that it can cover its personnel requirements by recruiting from among its up-and-coming trainees and apprentices," emphasized Müller. Thomas Bittelmeyer, deputy chairman of the works council, congratulated the newly qualified youngsters and encouraged them to carry on honing their skills through further training. Tognum is especially proud of Jasmin Zisler and Ramona Rittler, both of whom received prizes from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for outstanding achievements during their training as industrial management assistants, with additional modules in international business management and foreign languages.  

Of the 46 apprentices, 31 young men and women qualified as industrial mechanics. Of their fellow apprentices, five successfully completed their training as electronics technicians in the field of automation technology, four as industrial management assistants with an additional qualification in international business management and languages, and another four as mechatronics technicians. There was also a qualified pattern maker and a safety and security expert. The company is currently training a total of 244 young people at its Friedrichshafen location – these include apprentices in 10 different vocational areas and students pursuing dual studies among 6 different disciplines.
