Choosing a career with ‘Tognum Take-off’

Friedrichshafen, 19 June 2012. The specialist for propulsion and power solutions Tognum is showcasing the myriad opportunities for training provided by its subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen. ‘Tognum Take-off’ is the name of its open day, held on Tuesday, 26 June, from eight to five o’clock in Plant 1, Maybachplatz 1 in Friedrichshafen. At the open day, school pupils and their parents, as well as whole classes and their teachers, are invited to find out more about interesting careers. Tours of the apprentices’ workshops in Plant 1 in Friedrichshafen lasting from one to one-and-a-half hours provide a foretaste of ten different commercial and industrial vocations, and visitors are free to join them ad hoc without previous booking.

At the different work stations, participants in the open day can put their hand to the task, and have a go, for example, at technical drawing at the monitor of a technical draftsman. Other job profiles presented by Tognum include those of industrial management assistant, electro-technician, and industrial mechanic. Information is also provided on study courses offered in conjunction with the Cooperative State University of Baden-Württemberg in the fields of industrial engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or international business. “Visitors learn from our apprentices at first hand how training at Tognum is run, and our instructors are also available to answer any further questions,” said Martin Stocker, head of vocational training and dual study courses.

“We want to give school graduates of all ages and from all school types the opportunity to discover the fascination of a scientific career and to experience technology and electronics at first hand,” explained Ingo Metzer, head of Human Resources at Tognum. “To help them form their own impression of what it is like to work in the field of engineering and electronics, we particularly want to address those pupils who have no familiarity with technology,” emphasized Metzer.
