The Turkish shipyard Bilgin is currently building three 80-meter yachts fitted for the first time with mtu IMO III propulsion systems. They are also the biggest yachts built in Turkey. The Bilgin 263's twin mtu Series 4000 V16 engines can power it up to a top speed of 20 knots, making it faster than its predecessors, and its mtu SCR system ensures the yacht stays within IMO Tier III exhaust emission limits.

The integrated IMO III solution – consisting of an SCR exhaust gas aftertreatment system perfectly tuned to the propulsion system – offers flexible installation options and is easy to maintain. The mtu SCR system is fully controlled, with real-time nitrous oxide measurement both before and after SCR, enabling the catalyst volume to be varied with great precision.

The first Bilgin 263 was ordered from the yard back in 2018, and is due to be handed over to its owner in 2019. Three sister-ships are to undergo commissioning in 2020 and 2021. Bilgin 263 yachts have sharp exterior lines and stylish interior areas offering a modern feeling. Designed by Unique Yacht Design and H2 Yacht Design, this model is 80 meters long and 12.2 meters wide, and features an owner's cabin, a VIP cabin and six further guest cabins.

“Bilgin Yachts is currently one of the world's top 20 yacht builders. We expect even more success with these new orders for the Bilgin 263, which is one of the cleanest vessels in its class thanks to the mtu engine and its SCR system,” said Ismail Sengün, CEO of Bilgin Yachts.

“We are proud of Bilgin Yachts to realize these mega yacht projects and of course that they choose mtu as their partner to power these mega projects. They were the first global mtu partner for SCR application on yacht segment and we are excited to achieve more first times with them” said Ali Güzel, Managing Director of mtu Turkey.

IMO Tier III, an exhaust gas emissions directive published by the International Maritime Organization, means that NOx emissions within certain areas (known as NECA: NOx Emission Control Areas) must be complied with.
