New chief executive of MDE Augsburg

Ulrich Kemnitz will be the new chief executive of Tognum’s subsidiary MDE Augsburg as of 1 May 2008. Kemnitz comes from within the Tognum Group; his last position was as chief executive of MTU Detroit Diesel Inc. in Detroit, USA. He will replace the present MDE chief executives Dirk Naujokat and Klaus Deleroi.
Kemnitz was born in 1955, is married and has two children. After studying mechanical engineering with the special subject of combustion engines in Braunschweig, he joined the Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen in 1983, starting his career at Lake Constance in the field of engine design. His career development took him to the United States at the beginning of the nineteen-nineties, where he was a team leader in Houston, Texas and developed the technical support for the distribution of yacht and marine engines. Back in Germany, Kemnitz was in charge of the design, development and implementation of a Group-wide software application for worldwide sales support from the middle to the end of the nineties. After that, he assumed responsibility for the central worldwide customer service of MTU Friedrichshafen with a staff of more than 300 persons. In the year 2000, Kemnitz was sent to Detroit. Until being appointed as chief executive of MTU Detroit Diesel at the beginning of 2006, following the acquisition of the US diesel-engine manufacturer he worked in various responsible functions both on the company’s restructuring and on its integration into MTU Friedrichshafen. During his tenure at MTU Detroit Diesel, Kemnitz was responsible for the development and implementation of a turnaround and growth strategy that led to doubling the company’s sales revenue within the last three years.
Christof von Branconi, Tognum’s Board of Management member responsible for MDE Augsburg, commented on the appointment of Kemnitz as new chief executive as follows: “Due to his great experience in various functions at several of the subsidiaries of the Tognum Group, Kemnitz fulfills all the requirements to successfully further develop MDE as an integral company of the Group and to manage it with a clear entrepreneurial focus on growth and customer orientation.”
